New Opportunities, New Momentum
2022 ANNUAL REPORT
See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:19
Ross Chapman
From the CEO
"We recognize God is doing something new in Denver, the Front Range, and in our work. It’s the in-breaking of the Kingdom of God in every workplace, neighborhood, and family. Yet, while we’re planning for our renewed role in its emergence, we can look back and see the new things God did through the investment and work that happened in 2022. Like Isaiah says, it’s our job to perceive it.
So, this report shares the story of four of our programming areas that were new or grew significantly in 2022. We hope you’ll consider and perceive how they might bring new life to your work. It also highlights the story of two real estate co-workers impacted by Denver Institute who are making a way in the wilderness. Their stories will inspire and challenge you like they have us."

Colorado Conversations
...a new type of event to build community
For one attendee, the most valuable part of the event was “connecting with other local professionals to share experiences and get feedback from [those] who share my faith.”

CityGate
...growing partnerships for personal formation and community transformation
Across the United States, there are many local organizations committed to changing and healing their cities. Often that work is done in silos, without the encouragement of community or collaboration.
"I want you to know that our partnership has been so helpful to me – on curriculum, on the admin side, and it has been a joy personally. "Helpful" is good in practical terms. But more than that, I feel like you're with me – which means a lot."
Blaine Lay
Executive Director | RCLI

Virtue and Vice
"See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up..."
Virtue & Vice emerged as a way of intentionally integrating programming to provide a richer formational opportunity to readers and listeners.
Virtue & Vice
...a new approach to content for greater formation
In response, Denver Institute published Virtue & Vice at Work: Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Age, a book that draws on historic traditions of the Christian faith to offer a framework for understanding how the modern workplace can be a conduit for sin and vice. At the same time, we launched a podcast series that explored how to cultivate virtue in our various workplaces. The book and the podcast episodes provided our listeners and readers with a robust challenge to recognize the way vice distorts their work and encouraged them to cultivate virtue in response.
For one reader, the book "wrecked me in the best of ways...I think every Christian in the workplace ought to read it.”
virtue and vice At Work
“Work is a unique kind of crucible because sooner or later it will reveal what we’re made of. Day after day, we wake up and bring our broken selves to work (whether in an office or on a Zoom call), and whom do we find there? Other broken selves. To put it another way, there is no context quite like work to remind us that we have no choice but to find a way to live with ourselves and with other people.”
Virtue and Vice at Work: Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Age
Looking Forward
In the summer of 2023, Denver Institute will launch a new podcast called “Teach Us to Pray,” with weekly episodes focused on short scripture meditations and prayer practices to accompany you in your daily work.
In the fall, we will celebrate the launch of a new book with InterVarsity Press, Faithful Work: In the Daily Grind with God and for Others. Details on how to purchase a copy coming soon!
Women, Work, & Calling
"See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up..."
Women, Work, & Calling emerged as a program area with clear momentum and an audience eager for more development.
Women, Work, & Calling
...a growing program area for deepening discipleship
One attendee remarked "I was refreshed and encouraged to hear a biblically grounded affirmation of the significant roles women have in the workplace. The speakers and panelists presented a rich tapestry of experiences, perspectives, and influence that expanded my view of how God is using women to build his kingdom across industries."

We are recruiting church and nonprofit host sites to expand the 2023 event and exploring a partnership with the De Pree Center for Leadership at Fuller Seminary to develop a cohort-based curriculum for women.

Feature Story
“Where do you see brokenness in your industry or city?”
That question motivated Dave and Ingrid to explore how they could use their work to bless others on a local level. As a result, they created The Flourish Alliance, a 501(c)(3) that focuses on issues that limit someone’s ability to live a flourishing life. Here’s how it works: The Flourish Real Estate Network gives over 25 percent of the profits from real estate closings to The Flourish Alliance. Then, The Flourish Alliance uses that money to write grants for organizations addressing areas of brokenness such as food insecurity, human trafficking, and homelessness."

Finances
2022 was a unique year for Denver Institute.
Organizationally, we saw significant changes in our staff composition with a CEO transition and the addition of talented staff members in key roles, including VP of Advancement and VP of Operations and Finance. Programmatically, we moved away from the production of digital courses and invested in anchor initiatives like Women, Work, & Calling and Business for the Common Good. Financially, we saw a significant increase in individual giving which sustained us through an unusually low year for grants.
The following slides outline the financial details of these changes. In the future, we are committed to diversifying our income sources and continuing to steward those resources with maximum faithfulness toward our mission.
"I believe in the work DIFW is doing and want to ensure others have opportunities that I have had to learn and grow in their faith and career."
